When you are pregnant, you have a dual responsibility - of yours and your baby. To ensure that nutritional needs of pregnancy are met, include whole grains, green leafy vegetables, yoghurt, wheat products, cereals, pulses, water, lentils, cheese and other dairy products. Drinking coconut water, carrot juice, watermelon juice and other citrus fruits will provide you nutrition you need.

Pregnancy is a challenging condition, which demands more care and attention. First trimester is the times when foetus develops; for streamlined development you need a healthy nutrition. A good way to ensure that you are eating healthy during pregnancy is to abstain from processed and fast food. Dairy products, protein foods, fruits, vegetables, meat, fish and poultry, water and other fluids and vegetable oils should be a part of a diet to ensure that your nutritional needs are met. When in doubt, discuss diet with your health care practitioner.

Diet is very necessary when one is pregnant, we are glad you have asked such an important question. A well-balanced diet should contain something from all the food groups, i.e., dairy products, fruit, vegetables, fish, meat, eggs, fat and carbohydrates. These foods should be included everyday. Approximately 10 per cent of calories should come from protein. You will find protein in meat, fish, eggs, dairy products and beans. Approximately 35 per cent of calories should come from fat, which is mainly found in butter, oils, margarine, dairy products and nuts. Approximately 55 per cent of calories should come from carbohydrates, which are found in bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, corn and other grain products. And do not forget to take folic acid as it is of utmost importance.
